I'm an American living in Japan looking for a good quality DVD player to play region 1 and region 2 DVDs. I've been thinking about getting the Pioneer DV-383-S player. What's the difference between a region free player like the DV-383 and a regular player that's hacked to be region free? Are there pros and cons of going one route or the other? Thanks!

Many players can be made region free with a few button presses on the remote control. They can always be set back to the home region if warranty becomes an issue. Or just thrown away.
