I need help with what type of media others have had success with using the Lite-On 5006.
Some of their dvd makers on their tested compatible list on their site I have never heard of...
I used a Maxell dvd-r from about a year ago and it copied great...so I went to buy more Maxell dvd-rs and my hubby got some new ones that have written on them up to 8x and they are bronze where the ones from a year ago are gold and the new Maxell dvd-r that I copied something to stops and jumps on a different dvd player that I tested it on whereas the older Maxell dvd-r did not.
Any help as to what people in the United States have had success burning their dvd media on a Lite On 5006 dvd recorder would be appreciated. If you could post the brand name (ie Memorex) and the dvd media type (ie dvd-r) and the speed that the brand is (ie 4x or 1x or etc)
I just don't want to have to go out and buy a whole bunch of dvd-r or +r or -rw/+rw media trying to get something that works and loose money in the process.
Thank you in advance for your help.

  2. Maxell DVD+R and Maxell DVD+RW available at Wal Mart work well for Lite-On units. I'd stick with 1-4x discs. The newer 8x and 16x discs may give the unit some trouble.

I have the LVW-5005 but it may be close enough to be meaningful. I bought a huge stack of Ritek (RiData) 4X DVD+RW and -RW discs and haven't had a single problem. I prefer the +RW so I don't have to finalize before ripping to the PC.

The Maxell DVD-R you bought last year were most likely those made in Japan.

I bought some in summer of this year and they were made in Taiwan. Haven't had trouble with the 3 or 4 I have burned to give to friends. But I am sticking with the made-in-Japan discs for my own archive.

On my LiteOn 5005 and 5104, I've been using Verbatim MCC004 DVD+R 16x discs lately, no problems.

What is the difference between the Maxell dvd-rs that are made in Japan and the ones made in Taiwan?

  10. Different manufacturer? I doubt Maxell makes their own discs, much like many other companies.
