  1. Once again I turn to this community to help solve my problem.

Background: I have a number of .iso-files of DVDs I have made. Usually I drag-and-dropp the files to media player classic, the DVD plays and I am happy. A few weeks ago I got a new notebook and I tried to do the same, but...

Problem: It will not play. I am using version 6.4.8.2, the same as in my other two computers. (even the same installation .exe). It says "Cannot render the file". The same files opens with no problem in my other computers.

So, I search (in this forum and on google) and find ... not a great deal. A few have the same problem as me, but there is no remedy, there is no cure. Trying to narrow down the problem I download another player capable of playing .iso (KMPlayer @ www.kmplayer.com). It works fine on my old systems, but on the notebook:"No combination of filters could be found to render the stream".

    What is missing?

The workaround: I COULD use deamon tools to mount the image. Actually I am using it and it is working just fine, but I would like to know what is wrong with my new system.

All the systems are using WinXP SP2

Download the trial of PowerDVD and see if maybe a driver is missing. Just a guess.

  3. Hello, and thanks for the suggestions.

Unfortunately, PowerDVD did not help me.

VLC Media Player did, on the other hand, work. It is a workaround that might be permanent.

    Thanks for the help.

If anybody else have an idea on how to make Media Player Classic work, I would be happy to hear it.

  4. Mount the ISO with Daemon Tools. Then you can play it from the virtual drive with MPC.

[EDIT] Heh, just re-read your first post. My bad. Still, it's easy and it's what I do. Open MPC and just click "Open DVD" and Hey presto!
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
