    Hi

since there is not software like anydvd for the mac, I was wondering if anyone knows a firmware which patches my LaCie (NEC ND-3540A) region code free?

I have never done this on a mac nor do I know where to get a firmware patch from.

    Can anyone please help?

    thanks in advance.

Get the region-free patch listed for your drive from RPC Firmware page,
and then use BinFlash to install it,
and then Region X to verify it.

The problem is: I do not know where the firmware is on that site.
The only firmware I find is 1.F1 (Mad Dog OEM) for RPC-2

Can anyone confirm if this is a region free firmware for my burner?

also: can you give me a step to step instruction for patchin the drive with mac?

If you click the DATE link

clikc on the name of your drive,
and it will take you to mad dog's link.

    As for instructions,
    go here at Xlr8yourmac
and read the instuctions FULLY, it should help you.

I find it easier to use NecFlashX to flash my NEC drives. It's a GUI built around Binflash. It’s easier to point and click than type commands. I find it best to run it from the desktop. Also, don't have more than one NEC drive connected at a time when you do the flashing. You can find NECFlashX at:

    http://www.ralf-papenfuss.de/mac/necflashX.html

As far as modified firmware goes, I have had a good experience using Liggy & Dee's modified firmware. You might try Dee's 1.W8 RPC1 firmware. It incorporates enhanced writing strategies, rip lock removed, and region free.

I checked out the page http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/3540/

    looks pretty good.
I have an RPC2 NEC drive. which one should I download now for flashing? Can I use the RPC1 one?
what's the difference between the "FAST SLOW ORIG And RPC1" ???

    thank in advance

got the RPC1 since this is the regionfree one (I found out).

Tried to flash it with neoflashX but it took about 30 mins and in the end it said something like:

    entering safe mode
    error flashing
    and some hex codes

    Can anyone help?
I used the firmware off the http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/3540/ site.
    The RPC1 Version Dee's 1.W8 firmware.

    Any suggestions please?

    sounds either like:
you'll have to do a force firmware accept
    or
your Firmware choice isn't compatible with the drive.

Maybe now you'll give my posts and BinHex a try...?

certainly can't hurt...and is easy as pie....

I've never had a problem with NecFlashX. To be sure though, you have to launch it from the desktop. You can't run it from the applications folder or a different drive. Your firmware choice sounds okay.

    Well it didn't work.
Flashed about 30 mins and stopped with an error.
    Luckily my drive still works.

Will try the maddog firmware later this day.
Until then, can you, terryj, please explain what you mean by your last post?

Maybe you have dealt with my problem before?

thank to everyone helping me. Very kind
