  1. Hi everyone. I was wondering if someone can help me out with this little problem I have. I want to convert my mkv files to DVD but I'm having video/audio sync problems. After I extract the track1.avi, track1.srt, track1.aac, I convert the aac to ac3 with no problems. I noticed the duration of the avi is 17 min and the duration of the audio and srt is 21 min long. I'm not sure why this is. THe mkv file plays fine btw. I know about the DVD santa guide but I didn't want to hardcode the subs so I was going to use divxtodvd and then dvd lab pro to combine the ac3, srt, and mv2 files. I do that with ogm and it's much faster and easier for me. Any advice?

edit:nevermind, I found a way to fix it.

Not really an mkv problem then is it?

Anyway it sounds like the mkv is VFR (Variable Frame Rate). ogm doesn't support VFR. Once you extract to avi, the video becomes CFR and the lengths therefor no longer match.

Best thing you could do I guess is use the mkv time codes to encode to m2v in sections, applying pulldowns to get them all to 29.97fps, then join. Take this m2v along with the audio (converted to AC3) and subs, author and burn.
