Hi,
I transver DV tapes to PC with WinDV (type1), then convert to mpg2 with TMPGEnc Plus 2.5, then author with TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6
How do I make my DVD audio AC3 5.1 format? What's best software for that?
Because everyone now has surround!
Also what program should I use to put some effects on video (like black and white and so on?). Adobe after effects? or there is some other software.
Thank You

if you want surround sound from stereo read https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=231277

Unless the audio is 5.1 to start with, you really can't. You can make up some extra channels, but you can't really create something you don't have to begin with.
I generally use ffmpeggui to convert WAV audio to 2 channel AC3.
If you had AC3 5.1 to start with, you would just use it for your audio source when you author to DVD. Do the same with your converted AC3 2 channel audio. -
No I don't have AC3 5.1 to start with, because it's DV AVI file, so it's stereo, but vhen you transfer from camcorder with WinDV in type 2 the audio file is something diferent then wav, can TMPGEnc Plucs when converting to mpg2 convert audio to ac3, is there any plugins or something?
And I also would like to capture in type1 with WinDv, becouse I back up original AVI's to DVD. -
When you use TMPGEnc to convert your AVI to MPEG2, it will output an m2v file and a wav file.
Use one of the programs already recommended to convert the wav to AC3.
Or extract the audio from your AVI with VirtualDubMod, then convert to AC3. -
... or buy the TMPGEnc AC3 plugin and then you can output 2ch AC3 directly from TMPGEnc Plus without having to use an external program.
If in doubt, Google it. -
AFAIK, TMPGEnc won't accept Type1 DV. Virtual Dub won't either, unless you use the latest version. I use Type 2.
I usually put my DV files into VD Mod, along with the addition of the Panasonic DV codec to be able to read them. Then I edit and filter as needed, save the audio out as a WAV, then convert it to AC3 with ffmpeggui. I frameserve just the video out to TMPGEnc to encode to MPEG-2. This saves me from making a edited file.
When authoring, I use the MPEG-2 video and select the new AC3 file and author and burn. Allow for the size of the AC3 file and about 200 MBs for the authoring procedure when you set the bitrate during encoding to end up with the proper filesize for the DVD. -
I captured a 30 sec file for test in type 2 mode with WinDv, but there is no separate audio file there is only one AVI file, and when I load it in to virtualdub, I can't find the option to output audio as wav.
What filters should I use on AVI file to make picture best quality, becouse I'am making videos of my little girl, so I like them to be perfect
Also i would like to backup original AVI's from DV to DVD for later edditind, and authoring. But I like them to be already with AC3 audio, so I just could add the effect and autor DVD. -

Can be used by itself as a standalone with the soundplayer to encode ac3, in DVD-lab PRO & i'm sure some others i'm not aware of -
VirtualDubMod gives me error on start up "This aplication has failed to start because corona.dll was not found. Re-install the application may fix this problem.

With DV the audio is combined with the video. Use filters sparingly and only if needed. There are a lot of VD filters available here: http://neuron2.net/
You may find some that will do the effects you mentioned earlier or something similar. There are a lot of guides for Virtual Dub available to the left. <<<<<<
To extract the audio with VirtualDub: https://www.videohelp.com/virtualdubaudio.htm
With VD Mod:

All this getting on my nerver, using five programs to make homevideo DVD.
Would I get the same quality by using something like Vegas or Premiere, or I'am better off ripping my hair off trying to figure it out with WinDV->VirtualDub->TMPGEnc->TMPGEnc DVD Author -
Exactly I do is use teh Ac3 plug-in with TDA and set it to convert MP2 and LPCM to AC3. Or I also use it With TMPGEnc Xpress and just encode the sound as AC3 during the conversion of AVI to MPG
