Hello all, I have been burning a large amount of DVD's now and I originally purchased a 50 pack of Fujifilm discs. I had no problems at all burning them. I recently found a very good rebate on a generic brand I have never heard of, Star-Logic. I started burning with them and I have had a couple of failed burns recently (4 of 20 maybe). After watching some of the movies, I noticed a bit of skipping also. I looked at the bottom of the discs and there are random deep purple blotches on the, like it was a bad part when burning. It's hard to explain, that's what is causing the skipping though. Is this merely due to cheap/low quality discs? I never had proiblems with this before when I was using Fujifilm. I guess next time, I won't skimp. Thanks everyone.

I've seen the same on some cheap discs I bought. Half the movies are unviewable now. I learned my lesson. Don't buy cheap media.

  3. Splotches...hmm...
It's possible the dye was not spread evenly across the disc, when it was made by the manufacturer.

Quality disks are so cheap nowadays that I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would try to cut costs here.

If you don't care if your disks will be viewable in 6 months (or even 6 weeks) from now, then go ahead and burn using the low quality "crap" disks. But if your data is that worthless, why are you taking the time to burn it anyway?

    Just my 2 cents.

Just follow that old adage: "You get what you pay for!" Good deals on quality merchandise are the exception to that rule.

Yeah, I went out and bought 100 Memorex instead. I looked through the cheap set and some of them looked absolutely horrible with the labels not even being correctly printed or as you said the dye, some are even missing portions. They look pretty pitiful. Oh well, the new ones are all set to go! I noticed that some of the small blotches were from debri on the disc when being burned. Oh well, thanks!
