When I insert a blank cd into my Mac G5, the disk drive makes some strange noises, and no blank cd icon appears on the desktop. I can still burn cds through I tunes, but I want to burn some mpegs from my desktop to the blank cd. Any help?

Check you Finder preferences and your system preferences. Be sure you have told the system to show CDs on the desktop.

I have, still nothing. The cd's burn fine in itunes, but they won't just show up on the desktop. Is there a good free burning program for Mac I can use tio burn data, or do I have to still slove this problem?

Have you updated your system software fully? Which version of OSX are you running? How do you have your Prefs set for blank discs?

what type of media is it? Brand? +r, -r?
Do you have toast? If so drop your files in there, click record follow instructions and it will then eject the drive asking you for a cd. put one in, click close tray and it may work
You should find out what your specs are for when you insert a blank cd. my guess is they are just incompatible with your drive [i still cant get some maxell's cd-rs to work!]
