    is there any freeware wav audio ripper i can use to rip a disc and then pick and choose tracks to burn back to cd

    As ExDeus said, Exact Audio Copy is what you are looking for. I think it is very easy to use.

  11. Another vote for EAC, but it does take a moment to setup properly. But I don't believe there is a better tool for ripping audio CDs. It's also a good burner for cue sheets.

    I like Nero.

    No, it's not exactly free, but it comes with most CD and DVD burners. Very nice audio ripper that works perfect every time. It also lets you set the rip speed, so you can slow it down for best quality.
