Cannot burn at 8X?

Hello I just bought a LG 4167 DVd writer. The disc I am using are TDK 8X DVD-Rs form Costco. The media code is TTG02 I believe. I have updated the LG drive to the lastest firmware. When I try to write at 8x I get error messages whether I am using dvd decrypter or roxio, but at 4x, eveything burns fine. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

All media will not burn at the same speed with the same results on every burner. All burners are slightly different due to chipsets and firmware, and media varies from batch to batch, and brand to brand. A media that I could burn at 16x, might only burn at 8x on your burner, or visa versa. It could just be a bad batch of media. TDK can vary greatly. You need to do a CDSPEED disc quality scan of the dvd, and post the results here. Or, try a good "made in japan" media.

harley2ride is correct. I used to own a Sony DRU-500A which is a 4X burner. I could never get to burn Ritek 4X discs to burn at 4X with any software. It would only burn at 2X max, even with the latest firmware. Other discs such as TDK burned fine at 4X.
