be nice its my first time.
Equipment pioneer dvr330 dvd recorder(no hdd)
I have been using TDK dvd-rw disks,
    problem:
I used the metioned disks to record a few times off the tv without any problems they recorded good and erased without any problem. but for some unkown reason after the last time i recorded off the tv. i went to play the disk and it took forever to load, then came up with a "cannot read disk" error. now the manual saids dirty disk or damaged but on inspection there seems to be nothing wrong with it.
if i initialise the disk now it takes 2min. then on disk navigation the disk status is 0.00 space left. disk will also not read on my PC.

can somone explain to me why this happening?
and what is anything i can do to stop it agian?
as i have lost some good stuff already.

do Pioneer dvd recorders hate TDK disks?

    thanks

  2. I use TDK dvd-rw's with a Pioneer DVR-531H and have had no bad burns even though some of them have been burned nearly 100 times. Not all the burns were on the Pioneer, some were on a Panasonic ES10.

One failure is not enough to indicate a problem. Even with the better media available, I have a 3-5% failure rate with each order of 100 pieces.

ok its actully been 2 failures ive had, same type and brand disk

what i am wondering is if this has happened to others using either pioneer or other drd recorders.
Is it is just ramdon "well then i cannot do anything about it."
BUT if it is something i am doing wrong, i wonder what it may be.....
cannot think what it may be . what sort of things cause a BAD burn..

is there a way to get the use of these disks back?

I use Maxell DVD-RW discs with my Pioneer DVR-531H-s (a stand alone DVD recorder with a built-in 80GB HDD) and after ripping the content to my computer (I like to re-author with TMPGEnc DVD Author) I use DVD Decrypter (or you can use ImgBurn) to erase the disc using the FULL mode. With a 2x DVD-RW this takes almost 30 minutes but seems to be working for me rather than doing the QUICK erase on the computer ... and the Pioneer DVR-531H-s appears to be doing a QUICK erase if I use it ... hence the FULL erase on the computer.

A 5 pack of the Maxell DVD-RW discs is only $7.77 at WALMART and they come in regular full size DVD cases (like DVD Video movies you purchase).

So far I've used my 5 Maxell DVD-RW discs over and over many times each but it has only been 2 months or so now but I record a lot and I know I have used and erased them a lot of times now!

In other words ... you might want to try the Maxell discs or at least a brand other than the TDK discs.

  5. It was mentioned that these disks do not read in the PC. Do you mean they do not play on a software player like PowerDVD or that the PC does not recognize them at all?

If it does not play but the PC recognizes the disk, try downloading DVDInfoPro from the Tools section to the left. It is freeware and will allow you to check the manufacturer code, erase, and format the disk.

If this is TDK dvd-rw X2 media, you should get media information like this,

If I quick erase with DVDInfoPro, the Pioneer 531 will automatically initialize the disk upon insertion. If I quick format it, the 531 will say " cannot play this disc", but the disk can be manually initialized and will work again.

I have been using Fujifilm and Maxell DVD-RWs in my Pioneer DVR-220 without any problems through multiple recordings and erasures. Haven't tried TDK. Sounds like maybe you have a couple of bad disks. Let's hope so anyway.

My only similar experience with TDK DVD-RW on my Pioneer DVR-510H is problems initializing a disc that had fingerprints on the recording surface. I wiped the disc and it worked. So you may have some bad discs or you may have a smudge on the discs.
