Just sort of curious as to why i am having this problem.
As of right now i can't use DVD-R DL media (Verbatim) in my Pioneer 109 drive.
I just bought 9 new discs and they are all not working.
    So...
Can the Pioneer 109 not accept DVD-R DL discs?

I just recently bought the DVD-R DL discs, and i have successfully used DVD+R DL discs fine.

Is there a difference between the - and + media for this burner?

It leaves me to believe that it is the -R DL media that is not accepted because i have burned plenty of +R DL media.

I thought maybe it was DVD Studio Pro at first, but then Toast 6 doesn't work as well.
It has to be the drive.
The drive does a few chugs, then gives me an error.
    Here is the error....

Plain DVD-R (4.7gb) Media works fine.

    Any suggestions?
Just wasted $50 on media if the drive doesnt support DVD-R DL media.

It supports DVD+R DL but not DVD-R DL. You need the 110 to get support for the - format.

    Incorrect.

The initial release (and specification) did not support DVD-R DL. Firmware Version 1.58 surely does. Please update your firmware.

I am also not sure that TOAST 6 supports DL, TOAST 7 does.

    Cheers,

Do i have to bring my drive over to a PC, then use the .exe file and then update the firmware. Then bring it back over to my G5 and then it will work?
Once again, thanks for all the help.

    sorry for another question...
How do i check what version of firmware i have on my G5.
I opened System Profiler, but don't see any Version for firmware for my drive.
    Just...
    Firmware Revision: A912
Nothing about 1.58 which seems to be the one i need.

BTW, Toast 6 and Toast 7 both support DL discs. Well at least Toast 6.07 which i have.
I mainly use DVD Studio Pro though to burn them cause I am not sure if Toast does the layer break correctly.

    Thanks for all the help.
I ended up searching some stuff on xlr8yourmac.com and found some way to use the Terminal to extract the .exe files to get the firmware updates.
Then i used Terminal again to load up DVRFlash and flash it.
    Works great now.
And my System Profiler now says 1.58 instead of A912 or something.
    Thanks.
