    Hi Guys

Did't know if this is the correct form for this.

My DVD PLayer (APEX 600) will play MP3 disc but the file names must be in MS Dos 8.3 format. How do you get Nero Express 6 to burn this format. I used to do this using Easy CD Creator. It would automaticall shorten all my file names as I added them.

I don't use Express, just the Nero Burning ROM. But there should be a selector to shorten filenames. There is in the regular Nero. Mine is set at 31 characters, but it has an option for 11. It's in ISO, File name length.

In Express, under Expert features, there is a checkbox for 'Check Joliet file names'. You might see that it is checked. I'm not really sure if that will solve the problem, though.

    Hi redwudz

Thanks for your reply. It did not seam to make any difference weather the Check Joliet file names box was filled in or not.

It seams that Nero 6 defaults to the Juliet file system which allows up to 32 charactors in a file name. What I need is to burn a data CD using the ISO 9660 file system which restricts the filenames to the old troditional MS DOS 8 charactors + 3 charactor extension. I've looked everywhere in the Nero Help files and on thier web site and I cannot find out how to do this in Nero 6. It plainly states how to do this in the previous version of Nero but not for Version 6. Does anybody have any ideas about this.

I couldn't find anything about doing that with Express either. But it is easy to do with Nero Burning ROM. Another reason I don't use the Express version.

This from the Nero site for Nero 6: ISO Level 1 supports filenames in 8.3 format (8 characters for the filename and 3 for the extension) (And apparently Express doesn't)

What you might do is find a renaming program on the net. Here's one I found, there are others:

    Hi redwudz

I tried that renaming program to shorten the file names and burnt a test disc and it plays.

    Thanks a lot
