Does anyone know if any model of dish network receivers have to ability to transmit up the stream other than connecting to dish network by a phone line. I was told this was not true, but looking for any further info. Thanx All.

Not true. But don't think your gonna get free PPVs after so many it won't let you order more until you connect it to the phone line.

Your CAM is programmed with a limit for PPV viewing. Most people have a $0.00 limit (meaning you cannot rent without the line) and the limit of the CAM is about $300. Technically, it could be $999 but since that number is never given out you'd be smacked with an ECM because the only people that do something like that are signal hackers.

You do not have to plug a phone line into the receiver, but most of the advanced services will not work, at least ones that requires two-way communication. All you can get is what is beamed down and allowed by the CAM. You won't be able to call in or login online for things like PPV.

Yeah... I think your out of luck there. I think if Dish receivers had a transmitter in them, they would cost 3 times as much as they do now.

Not only that but the guys who came out to install it would have to all be FCC certified to setup that equipement. I promise thats not the case.

For example if you get the Dish internet stuff the installers charge alot more. Its some of the same guys obviously but they don't all have the certification.

I checked into Direcway once (I lived in the middle of nowhere) and the equipment cost was $500.00. Install had to be completed by the Direcway people (this was for the upload/download via satellite setup).

    DirecWay is gone now.
They partner with DSL providers these days.

In the satellite net days, $500 was probably a promo price, it was closer to about $600-650 most of the time. I know somebody who had it, and it was really not that great. You would get slower net speeds (if any) when it got cloudy outside.
