I've gotten the email this morning on my hotmail account:

Subject : YOUR ACCOUNT LIMITED
Dear PayPal user,

account has been randomly selected for this
maintenance, and you will now be taken through a series of identity verification
pages. Protecting the security of your
PayPal account is our primary concern, and we apologize for any inconvenience
this may cause.
We recently received a report of unauthorized credit card use associated with
this account. As a precaution, we have
limited access to you PayPal account in order to protect against future
unauthorized transactions.You can check your
transaction details in attachment.
Case ID Number: PE-901-449-020
Please understand that this is a security measure intended to help protect you
and your account.
Thank you,
PayPal Billing Center.
Yeah, right. Moment I read that I knew something right away wasnt right. For one, why would just my account be selected for a random security maintenance check? Two, I rarely use Paypal anymore and don't really use it.
So what I did was I logged in my Paypal account manually, and found nothing unusual of the sort.
Also I noted that Hotmail permanently blocked the attachment that came with this email, which is a very good thing though I always verify manually rather than believe a link. I think that link would have redirected to another site where someone would be waiting to get your personal info. Hotmail also couldnt verify the Sender ID from which that was sent. Even the "To:" email addy line was incomplete, so that was another clue.
I know one thing, if that what was really going on, the bastard who sent that email should be shot. Seriously. I loathe people who try to take personal info from others and do what the call identity theft!![]()
.
