I needed some blank DVD's and saw this deal at OM....are HP discs even good?

In the latest NERO, I can only select 12X as the fasted burning speed with these 16X discs

  2. Those most likely CMC. No problem with the drives that I have.

I had a Verbatim refuse to burn at 16X. My guess is it was a substandard example so the software dropped the max speed to 12X. It worked perfectly anyway after that.

    HP DVD+R = CMC
Some burners do well with these.

The HP DVD-R (CMC) I would still avoid.

There is better media out there, equally priced.
    This isn't a bargain really.

Verbatim 16x 100 disc spindles were on sale recently at Office Depot for $39.99; they're Mitsubishi media and much better quality than CMC media. I'd wait for that promotional price to come back around. Alternately, you can get 100 Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R inkjet hub printable from www.rima.com for $39.99 plus shipping.

Pick one. Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, Walmart, Fry's and OfficeMax are all fine places to pick up some of these discs. About $15-20 per 50 pack on sale. New sale each week it seems.

Best Buy has Fuji Brand on sale this week, $15.00 for 50 after instore rebate, however, the only ones I've seen so far are made in Taiwan. Hold out for made in Japan.
