  1. Is there a good FREE program that I can use to convert DVD direct to MPEG?? I am taking old vhs to DVD first with my new Samsung DVD burner. (WHICH I LOVE btw). Then I want to take that DVD to my computer and convert that raw data to mpeg. Then when it's mpeg, I want to edit it, create chapters, etc with Windows Movie Maker or Sonic My DVD.
I am happy converting old home movies from vhs onto DVD to save them. I had tried Dazzle but was never happy with the results and it was cumbersome to say the least.
Any ideas for a free program to convert dvd direct to MPEG?? I have trialed DVD TO MPEG v1.9 but it's 30 bucks.
    Thanks,

If you have a DVD already, the DVD Decrytor is solid and reliable for demuxing video and audio. You can go straight from the disk without having to rip it first.

Rejig is also handy if you have already ripped the disk.

DVDx is good, but not free. Sorry.
I have been into computers since 1980. Ive been tinkering with DV in one flavor or another since 1990.

You don't... Try Vob2MPG... Or you could just rip the VOB files to your Hard drive and rename them to MPG format.. Works Most of the time, but a few instances where it will not...Better yet to use the Vob2Mpg Program that mats.hogberg pointed out....

you can't, you can demux to separate video and audio files with dvd decrypter.

try vob2mpg if you want one mpg as mats recommend.
