    Hi

I have a couple of mpeg 4 file + h264 that wont play on my divx player. Obviously doesn't support mpeg 4. it will play avi/divx though.

I want to convert them to play as they are on my dvd player without converting them into a DVD (vobs) which i have already tried and work but are too large as only one file per dvd disc. i want to put all of them onto one disc.

Does anyone know which converter is best without loss of quality. i have searched for tools but they all seem to be converting the other way i.e. dvd to mp4.

    Any help appreciated thanks.

As a general rule, DVD players that claim to support mpeg-4 only support mpeg-4 part 2 (Divx/Xvid being the most common versions), and only within a narrow set of encoding parameters.

For H264 source, I would suggest Xvid4PSP, using the AVI (Hardware) Format, and Xvid HQ Ultra for Video Encoding. You won't have any control over the file size, but you will get the least quality loss.

Personally, if I have a high quality H264 format movie, I find I get better quality converting it to DVD with FAVC than converting it to Divx/Xvid.

If you want to convert to Divx, please see this sticky:

It lists which options are problematic for DVD players that play Divx. If you use an encoder like Dr. Divx that has a Home Theatre setting, use that.
