You will need to supply some details about the pc before you will get a decent answer .
The wintv software , from what I have seen , and used is pretty well useless .
If you have ulead video studio (any se version) , or nero 6 , you might want to try using them to record , and see if the same results happen .
Other things come into play , such as tasks running in the background , that should be killed off before capture starts to lessen the strain on the pc resources and hardware .
The cards installation problems .
You may need to move the card to another pci slot , and try again .
Sometimes this works , but remember the rules :
Lets say you have onboard agp , and 3 pci slots , as a minimum .
The first pci slot shares with onboard agp chipset , so you should have no cards installed there at all .
The next two pci slots also share with each other , so only one slot can be used .
Another example :
Onboard vid + agp slot + 5 pci slots
Onboard shares with agp slot , and first pci slot .
Pci 2 and 3 share , so only one card here .
Pci 4 and 5 share , same rule applies .
I have seen many pc stuffed up because people just kept installing cards in any free slot , so you are advised to be carefull , and not to overload system resources .
Of course there are a few other capture tools available here on site you could also try and see if better results happen , but you need to get the hardware sorted out first .
The card itself might be suffering from having been overheated at some stage , there is really no way of knowing this , unless another pc has the same card , and you can swap test them . Thats the only way of really knowing if the card is at fault , or maybe your system has the problem .
Or having another pc , so the card can be tested and the results compared from each system .
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just check that the hardware for now is setup correctly .
Check for updates , esspecially for the os you are running (xp) .
Both for your pc , its hardware , and then for that card .
Try a few different products with capture ability to compare .
Nero and video studio can both capture from that card , but as I said , there are a few others you will find on this site , worthy of testing .
After all this , you should beable to determin where the problem is , and take steps to rectify the problem . -
Thanks fro the reply, i have the wintv go card, and my system is a amd 64 3200 venice, 2gb of corsair xms and a abit fatality sli mobo. it doesnt stress the systm one bit so dont think its that.
Ive tryed using nero but i cant get the picture on it, my vhs is connected via a RF lead. i can only get wintv2000 to get a picture to record. -
Which OS are you using? Which model number of Win TV GO PCI Card do you have? Tekkieman recently sent me a PM discussing this card. He said it works with VirtualVCR and he gets a picture on it. I have the 878 model and can not get it to display a picture with that software or any other software. I've also noted that whether you install the drivers from the CD or download the latest drivers Win XP complains about the drivers not being correct and asks if you want to continue with the install. Cancelling the install results in the hardware not working. Continuing the install results in instability for Win XP. I've tried several different machines and all with the same results. I put this card into a Win2k machine and it runs just fine, but I still can not get any third party software to display the tuner image. The record function is rather clunky and does cut off for me as well at random intervals. The Win TV software suite is by far the worst tv Tuning software I've used.
