I have a Sony Vaio FX340 laptop, windows XP, 256MB, 15GB
HD. I want to capture analog video (camcorder) with the notebook and then convert it to burn my own VCD. I assume that I need some type of external device to capture the video. I want to find out what is the most suitable device for this type of notebook. Thank you.

1.) Does the notebook and the camera support Firewire connections. That is the best way to go as it is lossless transfer.(if u decide to buy a new firewire camera, make sure it has a video and audio in. This way it can double as an analog device.)
2.) If they don't, wait. Wait for USB 2.0 devices. Currently USB is limited to 12megs per second burst, normal speeds r lower. This is why USB 1.0 cd-rw' can only burn at 4x. The new USB can transfer like 420megs per second. I have already seen USB 2.0 CD-RW's, I imagine video capture will follow.

It does have a firewire connection. I guess I did not make myself veryclear. What kind of device do I need to hook up the camcorder (analog) and the notebook computer. What would work best for the notebook? Thank you for your suggestions.
