I'm not exactly a tech newbie but this one threw me for a complete loop.

I'm an advertising guy and I have all of my TV commercials on a DVD. I want to set up a web site that has all of my work so I need to convert this DVD to qucktime format in windows.

I have purchased Quicktime Pro 7 for windows but alas I have discovered that it is not that easy to convert from DVD to .mov.

Can anyone explain the best way to do this. Obviously the DVD has sound too. AND I'd like to cut the DVD up into individual files (ie 30 second TV commercials) that can be launched as individual movies. Can anyone help me with this? Any software suggestions or step by step guides would help greatly. (I can't, for the life of me, find a guide on this topic. Or I can't decipher the lingo)

    Thanks for your help

You can convert to avi with for example virtualdub-mpeg2(open the vobs) and then use quicktime pro and convert the avi to mov.

Or try convert to mpg file with vob2mpg and try open in quicktime pro.

Or use dgindex-> vfapi reader ->quicktime pro, https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=759#759

After converting the DVD to .avi... do you know if I can edit with quicktime 7 pro - easily cutting it up into smaller .mov's?

Thanks for your very speedy help.

This is just not going well... it seems quicktime 7 can't read squat....

all of the solutions you threw out there something or other was wrong when opened in quicktime.... no sound.... stuttering picture.

Strangely some of the solutions I can open in windows media player fine.. but not quicktime... I know this is vague.. but Ive been playing around all day trying to get this to work.. I'll post more specifics tomorrow.. thanks...

What avi format did you save to from Vdub ?

Worst case, you can use the panasonic DV codec to create DV-AVI files. Quicktime has no problem reading DV.

Good point.... about the avi format..I didnt select one... I just used the default... This is probably incorrect..

Knowing what I've written above, whats the best one to use... the Cinepack Codec? Any feedback would be great

  8. Xilisoft Video Converter is a good product to convert one video format to another. It can handle quite a few different formats and it handles batch converts. It is not too expensive and there is a trial (but I can't remember how it is limited). It is also easy to use. However, this product won't handle your editing requirement.

I Know you said windows but if you can get your hands on a Mac you could use MPEG Streamclip it allows you to put a dvd in mark in and outs anywhere you like and convert to quicktime. It is a very good piece of software and is free. Get it here http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html

  10. Might I suggest AviDemux
    http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/

If you click docs then your language, you can look at the input and output formats. There are alot. I have used this to edit dv captured to a hardware dvd recorder. It took me a little bit of trial and error to get the clips loaded, edited, and exported. But, it did work and it worked well.

You can take a look and see what you think. Hope it helps.

As I look at the Quicktime site it sells a Mpeg2 playback add on. As I read it this should allow you to import the file into Quicktime so you can make it into a Quicktime .mov
