  1. I've been reading and trying to find info about how to make DVD Workshop not to re-encode the files already encoded.
People say it has to be DVD compliant to be not re-encoded.

I tried couple of MPG files with different bitrates. But Workshop seems to convert all of them no matter what.

How can I use the MPG files as it is?

    Thanks

GSPOT only works with AVI files, so forget that.

Ive used the program, heres what you need to do. I cant hold your hand all the way and give detailed step by step insturctions, but heres the process.

With the MPEG encoding software, look at your settings your using.

You can encode the MPEG in full D1 or 1/2 D1, with CBR or VBR and different bit rates!

The author program only has a few profiles you can choose from. You can either 1) Encode according to one of its profiles or 2) Create a new profile that matches what you encode in.

The program is great, I use it quite often, and this is the only complaint Ive ever had with it.

Anyway, point your mouse around, go into profiles, and find where you define your own. Or look at the specs of one you like and jot it down so you can encode in one of the predefined profiles.

Once you have that licked, the authoring will be MUCH faster.

Just keep in mind, if your doing motion menus, which is extreamly kewl, it will take a while.

    HTH,

Old versions only works with AVI. Latest works with both AVI & mpg. Don't forget that!

Wait... I thought all you had to do was uncheck the "Convert to Disc Template" under the Edit tab... no??

I have the newest version of GSpot, unless theres a link to a newer one than is posted at the site, and it only works with AVI. I will have to check on that further, but I just checked last month.

I dont recall that being there for the version I have, but it does sound very promising! Try it and post back please!
