I have two SFF computers on my desk for video and web editing. My main machine has the Pioneer 109 with the latest firmware (1.58) from Pioneer in it as does the 108 burner.
However, when I put the very same media in each machine, the 108 reports it can burn it much faster than the 109 which I'm supposing is the newer better burner? But seems like it's pickier in deciding if it will actually allow you to burn faster or not?
I produce my own videos and always burn them at the slowest allowable speed.
But why the discrepency in highest burn speeds? This happens with what ever media I toss at it.

the pioneer 109 was shit.depending on the firmware it was either ok,or a total turd
the pioneer 108 on the other hand was a lot less bothersome to use.
methinks that pioneer fubared the 109 firmware.LifeStudies 1.01 - The Angle Of The Dangle Is Indirectly Proportionate To The Heat Of The Beat,Provided The Mass Of The Ass Is Constant. -
I've had a Pioneer 109 for 11 months now and have zero complaints. All discs I burn are fine. It works great.

I have had pioneer drives starting with the 104 through 110 and all the odd number drives suck in some way. The even numbered ones work great.

The Pioneer DVR-108 has firmware support to overspeed more media than the 109. That was/has been a common compliant with the 109 when compared to the 108 since it was released. I, personally, don't care because I don't overspeed media. I care more of the quality of the write.
I have both a Pioneer DVR-106 and DVR-108 and both are excellent drives. Neither are being updated for newer media compatibility even to write at their slower speeds, so eventually I'll upgrade. I don't plan on buying another drive until we reach the speed limits of each format. 16X on single layer and 8X on dual layer and re-writeables. By then I'll probably have a hard time finding media supported by the DVR-108. -

I just find it a shame that you simply can't just pick up any media and know it will work 100% of the time in 100% of the players out there, it's always one thing or another causing a compatibility problem with something... sigh.

Has anyone found any compatible/reliable -R DL printable media yet for the new DVR-110D burner?
I've tried Ridata 4x as Ritek have been very faithful with all of my single layer burns and haven't really had any reason before now to switch brands. The Ridata's unfortunately went over like a lead ballon and now I'm stuck with a $58 spindle of wasted discs, grrrr
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
