  1. Hello everyone

I was wondering yesterday this problem i had with my pioneer 531h-s 80 gig DVD recorder.
    i just bought it.

& i have already had a problem with 16 x media that are not compatible... seems like....

does that mean my unit is good to trash any time soon?
wich means media wont be available at 4 x & 2 x anytime soon......
that means dvd recorder won't follow the moving in speed... .............

    I don't get this pattern.....
I mean i tryed OLD brand (no name) 4x i had 10 left this is the only one that went on burning.

Is there an Firmware anywhere for the 531-h to fix this problem?.
    maybe this is the problem....
    i am not sure...

    because on pioneer electronics.com
( they don't state nothing on my unit.... it it kind of pissed me because i just bought it....& i wanted to know more about this problem....)

let me know what you think.

well you can burn 16x media at a slower speed for now ..

  5. Here is a list of top rated media.

    from this site http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

It is almost identical to what Pioneer recommends.

Memorex does not make media. They buy from someone else and put their label on it. Just go to the DVD Media tab to the left, click on it, type in Memorex, and you will see the manufacturers from whom they are buying. As you can see, some of them are not very good.

  6. cause the thing is.....

if each time my batch is done i need to make 40 stores before finding THE brand that works for the dvd recorder........

I just hope it's only memorex......
cause if this happens with the other brand i can find easyly

I might sell my DVD recorder it will become useless

it will be insane in 1 or 2 years......... it's never gonna follow....

I don't get why dvd recorder are made still.....
I am not even sure my dvd recorder will keep on tracking those faster media afterward.

I really dunno why manufacturer makes them like that

  7. Lets see I've used several brands in the 531h.

This may be a silly question but the Memorex is -R?

I seem to recall using Memorex 16X but as is mentioned it could be made by anybody and vary from batch to batch.

TDK 8X -R printable from Costco worked. Fuji 8X Made in Japan color DVDs worked. Sony 8X worked as I recall too. I even was able to use some old 1X -RWs that I had from my early days.

In fact I can not recall any disks that it wouldn't burn...... That's why I asked if you are sure the disks were -R. So far I've fed it any -R that I bought on sale.

    Good Luck

  8. By the wat the drive inside is based on a Pioneer 109 but seems to use different firmware most likely if you did change the firmware the drive would not work in that unit. I base this on pictures posted here and someone elses problems with a bad drive. maybe a search could yield more info.

There are many places where you can order blank DVDs on the internet. Even if you have to check 40 of them, it doesn't take much time or cost any gas.

DVD recorders are still made because people still buy them. Most people prefer them to VCRs and those are pretty much the only two choices.
