I am checking out the DVD Recorders with HD. All seem to support MP3/WMA playback from a CD/DVD, does anyone know if any are capable of adding to and playing back from the HD?

If so, seems like it would be a great way to archive and play lots of CDs and not have to buy yet another device.

An HTPC would be the better way to archive and play back media. As it is, I looked through the Pioneer 633 manual and the the question is not properly addressed. When the just ordered 633H-S arrives, I will try copying some MP3's to the hard drive and see how it works.

Hopefully you will have a difinative answer much sooner than I can provide.

I'm not aware of any DVD recorders that will store and play mp3s from their hard drive. I've read about Pioneer DVD recorders in Japan (and possibly Europe) that let you copy audio CDs to the hard drive.

If you have a Mac computer there is a cool feature in Toast 7 that lets you create a Music DVD with as much as 50 hours of music on a disc. Each title can have a unique graphic (such as album cover) on screen as it is playing. It also features a shuffle play mode and options to search and play by artist, album or alphabetical song title. But it's still on disc and not on the hard drive.

  4. Hi tphaggerty, I know that the Liteon 5045 (160GB) will copy MP3 and WMA files from a CD to its hardrive music folder.

  5. The samsung hr725 allows you to copy photos and mp3's to the hard drive.
Also plays back divx from dvd/cd. It plays +r and -r too even though it says it doesn't

The Pioneer 633 does not allow me to copy mp3s to the hard drive. Actually, it doesn't recognize the disc if I try the Copy function. It will play the mp3s from the disc. The process is slow and cumbersome trying to locate the file.
