Yes...This is my first post...but I have tried to find the solution to my problems by reading this forum. I can’t find the answers. Sorry javascript:emoticon('')

I may simply be setting ffmpegx up wrong…and hence causing a problem.

I have a Powerbook 12” 1.5Ghz with 1.25Gig Memory. I have tried to get some avi Divx films to DVD so I can watch them on my home player. I have tried these DVD’s on other players as well. All...including my Powerbook and Windoze PC DVD players give the same results.

The problem is that every 2-3 seconds…the video skips or stutters. At first…I thought it was a case of my DVD players not liking the disks I was using (Datawrite Yellow), but after I used other better discs (Datawrite Titanium) with the same results... I went back and looked at the results of what ffmpegX gave me in the Video TS folders with VLN…and sure enough…that video is stuttering every 2-3 seconds also. I went back and checked the original Divx avi’s…they do not stutter. So it is not a disc problem or an DivX problem.

I am using DVD mpeg2enc. First thing…it takes hours (like overnight) to “encode”. Is this the amount of time I should be waiting? If it is…that’s OK…as long as I know that is correct.

I’m still not sure what settings I should be using…but I do change the Half DVD to DVD 16:9. I’m leaving NTSC or PAL as default. Is that correct?

Anyway…I leave the “encoding” overnight. In the morning…I’m left with the necessary Audio TS and Video TS folders. I burn these to DVD with Toast using the UDF setting. They burn OK.

I have to say this is the only problem I’m having with ffmpegX… If I can get this to work and get rid of the stuttering…I will be very happy!

Keep up the good work guys!

  2. It is normal that the encoding takes some time. As for the stuttering, it could be the result of a mismatch between the framerate of your AVI files and the framerate you're using to encode them.

    Thanks for the reply Major.

I take it by frame rate mismatch you are suggesting that I could be encoding a NTSC film as PAL?

I'm not doing that to my knowledge.

Does ffmegx ascertain the frame rate when you drop the avi into the first box...and set the frame rate for the encoding?...or does that have to be done manually?

    Thanks so much

vintageb3, i've dealt with that same problem a bit myself and may be able to help. what does the source format window say when you select your divx movie? what about the target format? what dvd presets are you using, the mpeg2enc or ffmpeg? what options are checked on the options tab?
