  1. hi,

what i'm trying to achieve is to have a button in a dvd menu which, when clicked, will play a number of sequences, one after another.

example, gun fight sequences in a western. i set the start and end points of each gun fight. then from the button click on the menu, each of these sequences are played one after the other.

    is this possible?
what software will i need to do this?

    cheers

DVD Lab Pro can do this with chapter play lists. Just make the sections you want to play chapters, then create a playlist with the chapters in the order you want. Create a link to the play list, et viola.

TDA is a bit easier to work with. Just select 'play all tracks' option on Menu settings.

Don't get me wrong-DLP is an excellent program and way more intense in its ability than TDA. It's just that it is something that needs alot more understanding and one which is there for people to progress to and be more professional in their work. Whereby TDA is more simple in its approach. Still love TDA for its ease and it does a very good job. One day i'll get my head round DLP!!!!

    Anyway, for TDA just follow:

Add each clip/track in the order you wish them to be played by selecting 'Add New Track'. Once done, go to either 'Menu Display settings' and select the appropriate command or just use the drop down box next to it that says 'First Play action' and select 'Play all tracks'. They are different in what you intend to do.

Personally, i would create a thumbnail menu for each track; that way i can select any track to play by choice. Have this menu displayed when disc is inserted by selecting first play action. Then perhaps select 'Play next track' or 'play the next track(loop mode)' on the drop down box for 'Action to be taken after each track has been played'. that is up to you.

    Hope this helps.

He is not talking about seperate clips, but multiple sections with a longer feature. Imagine a function that lets you play back just the effects shots in Friday the 13th, or play back the entire movie. TDA can do chapters, it can do clips, but it can't do playlists or branching, which is basically what is required here.

Guns1inger-Apologies i misread. With age comes dementia!!!! And i feel 101yrs!!

In theory TDA could still do something. If he were to edit all sequences he wished to save, then outputted them all as its own TS folder and then when he reauthors again, he could add that file in on the start menu. Or am i still off the mark???? I need my brain medicine!! Only saying because i'm chicken with DLP-only know basics and still learning with it!!!

  8. thegeeman, ta for your input but i am with guns1inger.

rather than making another set of clips of a movie and then playing said clips, i wanted to create a "playlist" from the movie.

i will read the manual for DLP and get what i want.

ta for your help people and lets bury this thread.
