Gordian Knot 0.35.
I follow this guide:
http://www.rita.lt/guides/GKnot_DVDtoAVI.htm
Everything works well. The only problem is in the end GK create one more extra file which contains most of the credit part of the movie. Even though I did not set credit start or end.
Example:
If I chose split into CD, even 1 CD -> GK will create 2 parts, part 1 is the movie and a bit of the credit, part 2 is the rest.
If I chose split into CD, 2 CD -> GK will create 3 parts, part 1 is half of the movie, part 2 is the other half and a bit of the credit, part 2 is the rest of the credit.
Can someone help me please.
Thanks.

Hi-
Sorry, but I didn't quite get all of that. Are you saying that it comes out a little bit oversized, so after being split there's some left over? Like, if you want a 1400 MB AVI to be split into 2 700 MB pieces, you're getting maybe 1410 MB? If so, then I think you should maybe investigate why it is coming out a little bit oversized.
In the Encoder Tab, in the Codec Tab (DivX or XviD, I guess), do you have the "Re-Calculate bitrate if needed" box checked? You should.
Also, back in the Bitrate Tab, in the "Interleaving and AVI Overhead" section, if for XviiD, did you fill in the audio box correctly, and if DivX, fill in both the kind of audio and check the "Calculate frame Overhead" box?
These things are in Rita's guide, but it's easy to overlook something important sometimes.
Also, if XviD, sizes come out wrong if you didn't completely uninstall a previous version of XviD before installing a newer version. But they usually come out undersized, so I don't think that's it. But if you're using XviD, you might try and uninstall it and then reinstall.
You might post a log for an encode that came out oversized, if the ideas here don't solve the problem. -
manono, thanks for replying.
The problem is not file oversize.
if I choose 1 CD, I'll get one 700MB file (the output file) + 1 file ~ 690MB + 1 ~ 10MB
if I choose 2 CD, I'll get one 1400MB file (the output file) + 2 file ~ 690MB + 1 ~ 10MB.
So not matter how I choose, GK will create one extra file.

I think the problem may be the Xvid installation as you said 'cause I did not uninstall my Xvid when I install GK codec. Do you think this may cause the problem?
Thanks. -
Hi-
So I did misunderstand. You're getting the correct file sizes, but they're being split wrong. If so, then it's not an XviD problem and you don't have to bother uninstalling and reinstalling XviD. At least I don't think so.
That's a peculiar problem all right. As a workaround you could just split it yourself. If making 1 CD, you said you have a 700 MB file, plus the split ones. So you keep the 700 MB file and delete the other 2. If for 2 CD, you can split it yourself with VDubMod or NanDub. But that doesn't explain the problem.
So, it seems it's making the files the correct size, but it's being told to split them at the 690 MB mark. About all I can think of is that maybe you had the 1 CD size set once for 690 MB, and maybe after a reinstall it kept that setting, even though it no longer shows it in the Bitrate Tab. Some registry or ini file setting maybe. At this point I would suggest 3 things. One would be to go over the log file carefully to try and spot anything suspicious, and/or post one here for me and others to have a look. The second thing would be to go to the Options Tab and "Delete Registry Keys", setting it up again the way you like it and running a test encode. And finally I would suggest a complete uninstall and reinstall of GKnot. Many strange problems are solved by reinstalling it. Sorry I can't be more help. -
I don't think it is xvid installation (if I understood correctly the situation). Well, if you choose 1 CD at the end you have 3 files: 1x700MB (containing all the movie+credits), 1x690 MB(containing the movie and little bit of the credits) and 1x10MB (containing the remain credits). IIRC you have checked the credits to be encoded separately with lower quality to save bits for the movie. So GKnot is encoding the movie with full quality (so to say) and produces 690MB file. After that it encodes the credites with low quality and produces 10MB file. After that GKnot joins the both parts and produces 700MB containing all - movie+credits. Well, I don't see the extra file.

Hi Abond-
Got you thinking too? Yes, I agree now it's not an XviD problem. In his first post CelticSoul says he didn't set it for credits encoding. I suppose he could have a credits setting left over from a previous encode (Open VDubMod and go Video->Compression->XviD->Configure->check the Zones to see if there's anything there that shouldn't be). But it still doesn't explain the strange splitting of 2 CD encodes. Even if he did inadvertently have a credits encode going on, it should still wind up in the second CD, rather than being in a 3rd split file. In addition, credits encoding is set by frame number, and it wouldn't be the same frame number (creating that 10 MB leftover piece) for every movie. That's why I was thinking it might be something strange in the registry, and either clearing it or reinstalling GKnot might help to solve the problem. I'd be the first to admit, though, that I'm grasping at straws, and CelticSoul and I can use all the help we can get. -
I removed all the codecs and GK and did a clean install.
Everything works perfect now.
Thanks a lot!
You guys are very helpful.
I really appreciate. -
Cool, it worked. That's for reporting back. That's one to remember for the future.
