  1. Hello all:

I need help with a problem I'm experiencing. Whenever I try to burn a DVD, my computer shuts itself down (it doesn't restart, it just shuts off the computer). Also, whenever I put a blank DVDR+ or - into my drive (Sony DVD RW DRU 800-A), it changes the DVD drive into a 'CD drive'. I'm using Nero 6.6. I can burn CDs fine, just not DVDs. Any ideas?

    hi,

it's changing to a CD as it cannot recognise what type of disc you are putting in it (unformatted blank). I wouldn't worry too much about it

as for the shutting down, is it doing this when you are starting the burn, during the burn, after the burn or at random?

  3. Hello:

It usually shuts down mid-way through the burn, I would say between 20 and 50 percent into it. It also takes several hours to burn a DVD when it used to work, which is weird.

I used to have a couple of virtual drives (Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120) but I completely uninstalled them, which I figured may have a factor as well as only Nero, whereas before I had DVDXCopy too.

Also, when I check Properties with no DVD inserted, it says:

    Type: CD drive
    File System: Unknown

When I put a DVD in, it changes from DVD-RW Drive (D into CD Drive (D and:

    Type: CD drive
    File System: RAW

I figure it's some sort of configuration problem, but I'm not sure. Thanks for the help!
