  1. I ripped a DVD with DVD Decrypter and want to cut some parts from it and make a new movie. I opened the files with no problem using Nero 6 editing program, but I didn't like how it worked. I then tried to open the files with Windows Media Player, but got sound without video. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Do you mean Windows Movie Maker or Windows Media Player? The first is the editor, but I wouldn't use it for DVD editing. Try MPEG-VCR or the free Cuttermaran or other basic editors.

BTW, you do need a MPEG-2 codec for WMP to work with MPEG-2 video.

  3. My bad, I did mean Windows Movie Maker for editing. The thing is, I can play the video fine in Windows Media Player.

I read some of the reviews for Cuttermaran, and it looks good, but one person said "It requires your mpeg files to be de-muxed to elementary streams." What does that mean?

demuxing is the process that seperates your audio and video into seperate files, or elementary streams. When combined (or multi-plexed or muxed) into a single stream, it is known as a program stream.
