Hello,
My problem is this:
I have a picky dvd player (Magnavox DVDV802-2A) -- it works fine with commercial/professionally made DVDs that I regularly buy -- but it refuses to play any dvd I make on my computer.
At first I thought it was my DVD burner/dvd-media so I made a 1 to 1 copy of my friend's wedding ceremony dvd (that does indeed work on my dvd player) and lo and behold the copied dvd also worked...
So I was convinced that the reason my dvds weren't working was the way I was encoding/authoring them. Note: The dvds that fail to play on my dvd player, work just fine on my computer.
It's also worth mentioning that I tried to encode/author MANY, MANY! different times, using various softwares (but using the same dvd burner and media batch (a tack of 50 dvds I bought that have never failed on me) that the copied dvd was burnt on.)
I tried:
ULead's Dvd workshop 2
ULead's Dvd moviefactory 4
TMPG Xpress
TMPG DVD Author
AVS Video Converter
Free TMPeg Enc
DVD lab
DVD Author (Free one, using it's GUI)
(Each software above was tried using the guides found on doom9 or this site and each with BOTH PAL and NTSC settings during authoring (the dvd player can play both as I have some pal AND ntsc movies) )...
But.. as usual I end up with useless DVDs because soon as I put the dvd into the player, it confirms (shows) the title of the movie and just as it starts to play it comes back to the kiosk saying the dvd is incompatible and that it cannot be played.
I'm short of becoming bald because I've ripped out most of my hair over this problem... no matter what I do it.. just doesn't want to work :'(
What I want to do is:
I have a few documentaries I bought a long while ago... appropriately so, they're in VHS format and I figured it'd be better if I throw them on to a DVD.
This is my first attempt, so for the first documentary so I had a friend import it into a normal MPG format (not dvd mpeg2) on to a computer and put it on a dvd (not video dvd, just a data binary dvd with the .mpg file on it) so that I can put it on my comp and convert it to dvd format and burn it.
So far so good, the mpg runs on my computer with good quality at:
res: 352x240
fps: 29.97
len: 52 min 56 sec
Audio:
frq: 44100 hz
chn: 2 ch stereo
Now I want to turn this 1.2 GB mpg into a mpeg2 dvd compatible with my dvd player.
Can someone help me out please?
Thank you very much.

If they play on others and not on yours, if you've tried other media and still no dice... shitcan the Maganavox. Not worth the aggravation with players being so cheap.

I agreeIf at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0 -
hmm I thought baout that but if the commercial dvds can work, why not home made?
Would it be possible to compare a comerical dvd I have (the ifo, vbo, encoding parameters..etc) with my own so I can mimic the same settings and perhaps give it one last try?
If so, how? Thanks -
Commericial DVDs are pressed and not burnt. Unless you have access to such technology it's considerably cheaper to just purchase another player.
