  1. I was backing up 'Really Bend it like Beckham' which is a pretty complex DVD. So complex, I decided to strip and shrink rather than split woth DVDRemake Pro, like I usually do. The 'extras' are a fundemental part of the DVD.

So I hide non-english menus and strip out streams for non-english languages with DVDRemake Pro, and export the result. Then I run it through Nero Recode to shrink it. Hilarity ensues...

First attempt produces a coaster. It plays on the Pc, but on the standalone, I get the initial menu, then it freezes. Bad Burn? I try again, same result.

I import the output from Nero Recode into DVDRemake to see what's up, and lo and behold, Recode has edited the VM instructions, in a bad way. I guess when it strips out language streams (default behaviour) it does some MV programming. In this case, it conditionally tells the player to go to a non-existant instruction. DVDRM is squaking all kinds of warnings over this. SO I clean it up in Remake, export and burn. Voila, no more coaster.

But I thought changing the DVD structure was what Nero Recode didn't do, wo WTF?

    Would DVDSHrink do the same?

Looks to me like you already changed the structure yourself. If it is as complex as your words imply, then there is your problem. Your solution on the other hand, make require something a little more involved.[/quote]

You might think so, but I kept the original DVDRM export from before I ran it thourgh NeroRecodel, and the VM instructions are the same as the original. All DVDRM did was cell substitution and button hiding. IOW, pre Nero Recode, no change to instructions, post Nero Recode, change to instructions.

  4. I have the same problem with recode on all DVDs. It can no longer compess them. It ends up creating a disk with broken menus.

If you play the dvd in a player you can use manual track commands to play the movie but the menus don't work.

Older versions did not have this problem. I suspect it is some anti copying system. ANy way you have found to work around this nero bug.

No on the ones I have tried once nero rencode monkies with it DVDshrink can no longer load the files.

It gives a invalid DVD nav structure error.

I meant don't use Recode at all and just use DVDShrink

Thats what I have been doing since the bug. But rencode used to do a better job of compression than dvdshrink. And it was faster.

without looking at the files I cannot help with the invalid DVD structure. Normally you can go looking about and see exactly what mess it is creating

Judging on past experiences with Recode it's probably just a bug and not a protection . I mean they still can't remove video completely and still leave a long blank pause instead so how the hell would they know how to change VM commands

  10. It saves all the video info and you can play the video in your dvd player by advancing from track to track But the menu system is damaged.

On the computer if you select the play option in the menu the dvd player will exit. On the TV it will normaly just restart the dvd.

It does this on all DVDs now. Same problem reported by the orginal poster.
