All you guru's out there... I need to get up to speed so I understand what it is that I am doing half the time. I need to cram on DVD stuff (formats, codecs, -R, +R, audio formats, burning, playback etc... etc...). This web site is so rich with knowledge and it's overwhelming.
It's so easy to find a guide with step by step instructions to accomplish what I am trying to do. The instructions are so clear that I can download three new tools and use them to rip, convert and burn without understanding what I am doing. Then, when I hit a bump, all you smart people know exactly what to do.
HELP! I want to start understanding more of what I am doing when I am capturing, ripping, editing and burning to at least understand the acronyms and lingo. But, where do I start and go from there? Is there a 'All about DVD for dummies' guide that you could recommend?

Besides here a good site to start is here, www.digitalfaq.com
That's Lordsmurf's site, he's a mod here. It covers many of the aspects of video. Technical but not overly technical. If you already have a basic knowledge it's a good read from start to finish.
