I wanted to buy printable DVDs so I don't have to use the stick-on labels, but my printer doesn't print on DVDs. I was wondering what printers you could recommend for me. And do I have to get a photo printer, or do they make dedicated DVD printers.
Are TY printables still the favorite media of choice?
Thanks, guys,
George

The Epson R200 is a good value and it does a good job of printing. If you check around, you can find it for less than $100.

Most of the Canon Pixma series can print on CD/DVD media. Except in the USA (and Canada?). It's pretty easy to modify the US versions:

I recently bought an IP4000 at Fry's for US$79 and a tray off ebay for another $20. -
I've got a Canon Pixma IP5000 that prints to disc - and does an absolutely excellent job. It's dry virtually immediately and looks great.

I bought R200 saveral months ago from OD for $50 after $50
rebate. Its ink is very difficult to refill. A set of new ink probably
will cost about the same as the printer itself. There is a very
long thread talking about CIS to reduce the ink cost. The thread
went soooooooooo long, which lead me to believe that CIS must
have its own problem. Anyway, I later found that Canon printer also
can do CD/DVD printing. Canon ink is much easy to refill (I have
another old Canon printer using the same type ink). So I bought
a new Canon printer a few weeks ago. I will use Canon printer
once its original ink for R200 run out. -
I got sick of sticking labels on too...bought the R200 from Epson and very happy with it -- except the 6 ink cartidges are so small they're always running out of ink. But the DVDs look great - although a little harder to find printable DVD's and more expensive.

Depending on where you live, Costco has the 100 per cake pan of the TDK +-Rs with printable surfaces. Around $42 for the 100 cake container.
They also sell the latest model Epson that also prints on disk.Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.)
