I have been having a problem playing back DV on my computer recently. Every time I try to open a DV file I get this error in windows media player. "NO error description for this error. (Error Code=0x800A017F)". If I use zoom player it says "unable to play XXXXX.avi, this may be do to a corrupt file, missing filters, filter conflicts, or hardware related issues.
I have no idea what could have made this happen, the only thing I can figure is that its some kind of a codec problem. The only thing I have done recently is install a Pinnacle DC1000, I don’t see how that would mess with the DV codecs.
Thanks
Chris

You could try DLing the Panasonic DV Codec. It's what I generally use for a DV viewing codec.

Codecs can get corrupted through no fault of your own, so it's always a good idea to try reinstalling the one you want to use first, before pointing the finger at something else.
The other thing you could do is try opening the file in virtualdub, and see if it gives you any more specific error messages. If in doubt, Google it. -
virtualdub plays it fine but TMPGEnc wont open the file for encoding to DVD. It just say "can not open, or unsupported"

If in doubt, Google it.
