Last week Best Buy had $19.99 for 10-pack of MKM Verbatim 2.4x-6x discs. You missed it. Before that, Office Max had the sale. Before that it was Microcenter. Before that, it was Best Buy.

It'll happen again, just watched sales.

  3. I would have thought the prices would have started coming down by now. But it may be a supply/demand issue. At first they were high ($6 disc) because no one had the drives; now there are a lot of DL drives out there, but also a lot of people wanting the discs. I've oly purchased Verbatim Dl, but I noticed that Maxell and Fuji have them in local stores now—but not cheap even when on sale.

    Don't lose perspective.

CD-R and DVD-R/DVD+R are a lot cheaper than they probably should have gone. Be lucky it happened.

Remember VHS tapes? They never ran less than $2-3 (unless you bought crap, or in huge bulk lots).

I would suggest DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL will not creep down much further. Go check out the prices on DVD-R (Authoring) discs, DVD-RAM, and even DVD+RW/DVD-RW discs. Those still routinely price out in the dollars range, not the cents range.

  5. FWIW:

I picked up a 15-pack spindle of Memorex+R DL media from Best Buy last week when it was on sale for $20.

Via Toast 7.02 and a Pioneer 110D flashed to firmware 1.3.7, the Media ID code shows it as Ritek D01

Just burned the first disk at max speed (2X) with my 2005 iPhoto Library (7.95 GB) and the burn time as listed by Toast was 41 minutes and that's what it took. Verification time was an additional 20 minutes.

Burner installed internally in a Mac MDD dual 1.25 GHz running 10.3.9. As the drive is on the same ATA bus as that used by the original 4X burner, it is my understanding that faster speeds would be obtained if the drive was connected to a faster bus.

  6. is the general consensus that for the mac and pioneer 110D athe +DL media is tthe way to go, as it is more likely to be compatable with set-top DVD players?

    cheers

  10. The last two spindles of DL media I bought were from:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817132395

    And:

    http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productdetails.asp?submit=property&item=17-132-395

I bought them when they were on sale. They were about $1.60 - $1.80 each at that price including shipping.

The media works perfectly in my Pioneer DVR-110.

A friend of mine sent me this link. Funnily enough it is the same disc from the same shop as g4jedi's post, but at a much better price

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817132376

This is $8 for 6 RiData +R DL discs (not inkjet printable).

I don't understand how newegg can sell 6 discs for $8 on one page ($1.33/pc) and 25 discs for $45 on another page ($1.8/pc). Admittedly the more expensive ones are inkjet printable, but still...

"But still" nothing. Inkjet discs cost more, the end.
But that's all a moot point. Ritek DL media is total crap.

Must be situational. My first 10 Ritek DL discs (Memorex branded) have burned just fine in the new 110D burner.

    Alright, calm down buddy.

It is obvious to everyone that inkjet discs cost more to manufacture. But 33% more? I don't think so.

  16. tho and others:

the non printable should always be cheaper. and the 6 for $8 is really 5 for $8 with a single DVD-RW. don't know if they make DL RW's though.

I got the 25 for 45 with the inkjet although I don't need that

Ill try them as they will be the first Ive made.

Now, I have to find the link that tells me how to use toast 7 properly so that the movie "flows" ( my new word!) properly from layer to layer.

anybody know aboutt that link? might be a good sticky!
