I haven't used DL media in a very very long time.
is there both '+' and '-'?
if there are both types, whats preferred?

At this point in time, only the Verbatim DL + media is recommended by most of us for consistency and successful burns. DL - is more for data use.

verbatim + DL has been good for me also, but better in the Cake Box
20 packs than the 5 packs sold at Best Buy. It scans as the same
media using DVD Inspector, but the cake boxes have been more reliable
in burns ( 20 successful burns/0 fails) than the last five 5 packs I bought
(3 successful burns/ 2 fails).
