  1. Hello all,

Sorry if this is a FAQ, but I didn't see mention of it in the stickys.

I just purchased the Pioneer 220 and I am trying to burn copies of DVD-Rs that I have created on the 220 with DVD Shrink/Nero. I am not trying to edit the discs, just make straight copies.

Shrink analyzes the DVD-R just fine, but when it comes to the Encoding stage, I get the "Cyclic Redundancy Check" error. This usually happens when a disc is scratched or dirty, but these discs clearly aren't. The DVD-Rs have been recorded in Video Mode and have been finalized. I have tried this with several different discs and get the same error message.

I have tried using RecordNow! which sometimes copies discs that Shrink cannot, but I am getting their version of the Cyclic Redundancy Check error message as well.

Any help as to where I'm going wrong?

    EW

  2. CRCs generally show up on bad burns. What is the media code you are using?

Also, I don't know if this would do it, but are you finalizing the discs?
Still a few bugs in the system...

  3. Try DVD Decrypter and rip the DVD to the hard drive before you try to burn it. You don't need Shrink and it's a little flakey sometimes. You just need a good ripper.

You don't even need to rip the DVD. Just create a UDF format image file of the DVD and then burn that image file to your new discs. Unfortunately I'm a Mac user so I don't know which PC apps are best for creating UDF disc images and burning those to disc.

The Pioneer video mode DVDs have problems with frequent time code breaks so there can be a problem trying to extract MPEGs from those discs. That's probably what's going wrong with Shrink when it tries to reauthor the DVD.

I have two Pioneer machines. When I make copies I use DvdDecrypter in ISO Read mode, and then burn with DvdDecrypter in the ISO Write mode. So far I haven't encoutered a single problem. Be sure to use good media like Taiyo Yuden.

    Good Luck!

As mentioned use DVD DECRYPTER in ISO READ MODE then use ISO WRITE to burn the disc. What is the media code on those DVD-R discs that you used on the PIONEER 220? CRC errors can be caused by using cheap dvd media. Some media codes like CMC is crappy media. Use DVDINFO PRO or DVD IDENTIFIER to find out the media codes.

DITTO that ... use DVD DECRYPTER in ISO mode to COPY (READ) then BURN (WRITE) a DVD thus making a perfect copy of the original.

I have a Pioneer stand alone DVD recorder and I have been using Maxell DVD-RW discs (5 pack is $7.77 at WALMART). I use DVD DECRYPTER in FILE MODE because after ripping it to my computer's HDD I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to re-author (gives me good menu control). If you don't want to re-author then just use ISO MODE as stated earlier.
