I recently purchased a cyberhome 1600MU. After making plenty of coasters and updating the firmware i am returning the item. It was a beginning experience. I would like to know if there are any dvr's out there that dont have brand type media issues. i would love to be able to just stick a disc in ( sony, memorex, tdk, fugi, verbatim... etc. ) and record like it was a vcr. i was thinking about getting a pioneer but have not seen if there are media issues with that as well. i dont care about the quality of the picture because if you cant record with it the quality doesnt matter anyway.

  2. You might want to read this thread before using any media because it will record.

thanks that is very useful information. the only thing i can figure out is buy a dvd recorder. contact the manufacturer of the dvd recorder and find out what they recomend for the recorder. then go and find the media type code look for it buy it and try it. and i guess after buying about 300 bucks worth of dvd blanks and spending countless hours of recording and testing then i will finally find what media works with the unit. then go and buy a thousand dollars worth of it. lol oh and dont forget the firmware upgrades. then the process begins all over again. If this is the case with all DVD recorders then i will happily stick to vcr's lol

  4. You might start with Don Pedro's manuals page here,

For example, the Pioneer DVR-533H shows as being tested with this media,

i guess i am now on the right track. The Pioneer has been tested with the Sony discs. So since i now have that info all i have to do is go find the sony discs at the store and look at the manufacturers ID on them and that disc should work .... right? and by the way where is the manufacturers ID located on the discs? i might be dumb but i aint stupid ! lol
(the only stupid question is the one not asked)
    thanks for all the help.

  6. Download freeware DVDInfoPro. Plop the disk in and the software will show the media ID.
