Yes it is possible. It would be helpful if you posted your computer specs in your profile. Then members can assist you with computer questions.

On one of my pc's I have 3 dvd writers and 1 dvdrom. I use a PCI controller card for my hard drives which frees up my IDE CONTROLLERS on the motherboard.

Yes it is possible. You've just described a setup I use in one machine.

If you're going to use a PCI CONTROLLER CARD for hard drives you can use one that uses the PROMISE chipset. If you're going to use one for a dvd writer you must use a SILICON IMAGE 680 or 860 chipset. The PROMISE chipset cards do not work with dvd writers. Take a look at computergeeks.com for a SILICON IMAGE chipset PCI CONTROLLER CARD. I purchased one from them which works well with my BENQ 1640 dvd writer.

EDIT: Computergeeks.com is all out of the SILICON IMAGE chipset PCI CONTROLLER CARDS.

No BIOS changes necessary. These cards have their own BIOS which you will see in the POST. In WinXP/2K they are Plug and Play.
