Did anyone else receive this email from Pioneer. Got this last night. Very interesting. Pioneer going Blu-ray vice DVD-HD. I can see a 50GB Blu-ray disk at like $35 and a player like over $1000 and recorders like $2000.

    Dear dvwannab,

You may have heard about a new technology garnering a lot of attention lately, Blu-ray Disc. It's the latest in optical disc storage to allow you to maintain personal digital files, and more importantly, archive your favorite high-definition and standard definition content on a single disc.

You'll begin to notice Blu-ray Disc computer drives, players and recorders finding their way to your local retail stores in 2006. At up to 50GB of storage space on one dual layer disc, you'll be able to record and burn the entire season of your favorite one-hour drama (22 episodes in MPEG-4 AVC encoding) rather than the six-disc collection you find at a store. On a practical level, you'll be able to preserve a huge collection of MP3 files, precious home movies or digital images in one place rather than searching through a multitude of discs trying to find the file you need. Yet, these are only a few of the potential applications made possible through Blu-ray Disc.

As a leader in optical disc technology from the days of LaserDisc to DVD and DVD recording, Pioneer is applying its industry expertise to the development of products for the next generation optical disc - Blu-ray Disc. To make sure you know all about its many advantages, we created a Learn About Blu-ray Disc webpage for you to visit and discover how Blu-ray can enhance your life.

I got one of those emails, too. I think that everybody who has registered at their website probably got one. I bought a Pioneer DVR-109 a while back and registered it online, and that's how they got my email address.

No matter what they say, it's going to be hard to sell either Blu-Ray or HD DVD when there's a war going on between them.

I can`t see many making the switch anytime soon, (unless they are very well heeled$$$)
untill these units come pretty far under the $1000 mark, and the media
    goes sub $30.

And...if the manufacturers have a brain in their collective heads, they`ll make
the units with backward compatibility for DVD...(not that I`m sure it`s even possible.....)

    Just my two cents...
