I was using wma to cram it down to 64kpbs but I wasn't looking forward to reripping my cds to wma. I did buy musicmatch 10 plus a little while ago. I had forgotten about mp3pro. My rio s11 does support it so I'm going to convert a lot of my mp3's to mp3pro at 64bit to double my storage space.

    What do you use??
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

I don't need to worry about uber small spaces, 40GB iPod and over 200 GB's of storage space on just this computer. But, I use AAC for the majority of my encoding.

    Noahtuck:

mp3pro at 64k is pretty much the same, if not slightly better, than regular mp3 at 128. Download the player from download.com and try for yourself. It's not a widely accepted standard and to encode at above 64k you usually have to purchase the software (as far as I know).

But yeah, mp3 and AAC for me.

But its not compatible with everything like plain old MP3 is. Such as my car stereo.

MP3 at 192 VBR for me.

I'm assuming you mean a mp3cd player? Can you do a firmware upgrade for it maybe??

I was impressed that the last upgrade for my rio included pro support. I will be slowly converting my mp3's to mp3pro to increase my storage space on my memory cards.

  12. Ogg Vorbis. It's free, and it's an outstanding codec.

Nope. And you'll not find many that have such updates. MP3Pro has just never caught on.

People shift formats too quickly IMO, MP3 catches on and people start screaming OGG, DivX finds some acceptance and poeple start screaming Xvid (which thankfully is close enough that it usually supported)

These things take time, you can't expect all the hardware to support whatever you pet format is.

Yoda - I hope you aren't that concerned with sound quality. The only benefit you are going to see is smaller files. If anything you might be getting degraded quality by going from mp3 to mp3pro. IF you aren't that strapped for space, why do it?

mp3pro has been around for quite some time now. I remember toying around with it at least 5 years ago or so.

Thats why I'm doing it. I have a player with 128mb internal memory. I also have 256 and a 512mb sd cards. But I like to cram as much in there so I can skip around a lot.

The quality was just fine for me. I use little unpowered speakers and I listen mostly at work so I keep the volume pretty low anyway.

AND I'm thinking of getting a 1gb sd card which my rio supports but only if I can get it for under $50 on ebay - a long shot I'm sure.

  16. I find WMA9 and AAC to sound equally good at 64kbps,I can hear artifacts with mp3PRO at 64kbps.For archiving I use 192kbps MP3.
