Hi.. I tried copying DVD's for several days now and with no luck?

I have Toast and Popcorn, and I use MTR to Rip the DVD, but unfortunately I can only burn copies of "Full Disc" extractions...
When I rip Main Feature Only with MTR, and try to burn it with Popcorn, Popcorn say it "cant handle the content"?

So I tried just ripping Full Mode, and then choosing main movie only, but this time to let Popcorn extract the mainmovie, and 3times I have waited 1hour for popcorn to extract it, and when I play the DVD it only shows the first 10seconds of the movie (F ex Warner Brother initial presentation), and with no Audio, and then the DVD stops???

    Does anyone understand/recognize this problem?
Im new with Mac and even new with computers! hehe.. so need a little help..

    Thank you very muchhh!!!

Make sure you've updated to Popcorn 1.0.3. The reason that Popcorn needs the full disc extraction is that Popcorn reads the IFO in the VIDEO_TS and checks it with the folder's contents. Everything needs to be there.

I don't know why you're having difficulty with the main movie selection within Popcorn. It has worked well for me, except with DVDs that have both a full-screen and wide-screen version on the same side of the disc. In that case Popcorn is likely to choose the full-screen version when I want it to choose the wide-screen movie. This is where Toast 7 does better because I can use the Toast Media Browser to extract the specific titles I want from a DVD and have Toast author and burn a new DVD from just those titles.

Hi.. thanks for your help.. yes I allready have Popcorn 1.0.3.

And about letting Popcorn itself extraxt the main movie only; I dont know why it doesnt work, i tried with several different DVD's, cause i never need the Menu and extras, just want the best possible quality of main movie only, but when I try to play the burned disc in the DVD player, i just see the start of the movie, without audio, and for about 10seconds, and then it stops...
I cant imagine what I should be doing wrong, cause popcorn seems very easy and simple to use (press button-start-burn)?

    Hmm...

Thanks for replying anyway.. i appreciate your help!

    Thanks!

The playback issue sounds like a compatibility issue between the disc and the player. Does the Popcorn-burned DVD play on your Mac? I suggest trying a different brand of media. If you are using a DVD+R disc, then try DVD=R or the other way around if your drive burns to either type.

This is indeed strange. Here's something to try.

In Popcorn choose Save as Disc Image from the File menu rather than clicking the burn button. When that is finished mount the image file. You do this by selecting the Image File format in Popcorn and choosing that file. Depending on your Mac's settings, this may automatically launch DVD Player. If not, then open DVD Player and see if the image file plays correctly. If it does you can burn the image file to disc with Popcorn. If it does not then I believe there is a problem with the ripped VIDEO_TS folder. You also should test this by ripping a different DVD and to see if the results are the same.

If the DVD burned from the image file still has the problem with playback then maybe there is an issue with your disc burner or the player. Check that you have the latest firmware update for your DVD burner. There's good info about this at xlr8yourmac.com. Look at the F.A.Q. for DVD.

You also could try deleting the Popcorn plist file from your User library, trash Popcorn and reinstall.

ok. så I put the "full Movie" TS-Folder in popcorn, choose "main Movie Only" within popcorn, and save as image file, and THEN try to burn? Ok thanx a lot... I will try that.. i really hope it works... cause I live in Denmark, and it really sucks to encounter problems on a mac, cause there is nobody to ask for help, everybody owns PC and windows! hmm....

About the DVD burner, I just bought it last month, its a Lacie, with Dual Layer, sounds new, butt then again I havent much experience with computers.... First computer ever, so I must ask you, what is a plist file? sorry...

But thanks again.. appreciate your help..

You made a good choice in buying the LaCie drive. Go to LaCie's support site and check if there is a firmware update available for that drive. They released some firmware updates a couple months ago and your drive probably was packaged before that was available. Usually firmware updates are to help the drive burn to more brands and speeds of media.

As for the plist file. In your User folder (the one that has your name on it) there is a Library folder. Inside that is a Preferences folder. You'll see a file called com.Roxio.popcorn.plist. This can be trashed. A new one is then written the next time you launch Popcorn. I only suggested this in case the file was corrupted for some reason.

Hi I tried what you told me and saved the Main Movie Only file as a disc image.. and you told me to mount it and try it on DVD player?
But when i try it on DVD player, it asks for a video ts file, and wont launch the image file?
so how can i try it out?
I tried VLC, and it ran the file, but without audio?
    Thanx..

  12. Sorry if I am covering ground that has already been addressed.
When you rip in MTR you should use full disc extraction.

Then use you settings in popcorn to save the main feature only.

There are some known compatibility issues between MTR and popcorn. It may also help to make sure you have the latest release of MTR (3.0).

The app that plays best with MTR is DVD2oneX.

Click the Image File option in Popcorn and then select the disc image you created. If Popcorn doesn't automatically mount the image file, click the mount button. When the image file is mounted DVD Player should automatically launch to play it just as if there was a DVD inserted in the drive. Or you can manually launch DVD Player and press the space bar to start playback.

The trick is that the image file must be mounted on the desktop before it can be played.
