How to copy VHS original movies to DVD+RW?

I have Windows XP, HP DVD100i Recorder, MyDVD, Nero 5.5.6:

1) Does anyone have complete simple instructions on how to?
2) Is there a book that you can recommend?
3) If I can play the movie that was burned on a blank DVD on my computer does it mean that it was burned correctly and I can play it on a compatible DVD standalone play?
