Subtitles not working anymore

Is it just me or does adding an .srt file for subtitles not do anything anymore?

I have some asian movies with seperate .srt subtitles that will not convert or hard code into anything I am converting. I'm pretty sure this used to work in a previous version!

When I do a "play" or preview the subtitles show up. What I notice that is strange also is that my preview will not preview in the scaled down size that I set in the video settings. After encoding there are no subtitles at all.

From what I've found over the last couple days of testing, the use of subtitles seems to work only with mencoder-based settings. I've been trying to burn the subtitles into the video track of an mp4 file, but only ended up getting the same behaviour you describe. The only option that looked like it might have worked was H264, but I get a strange "x264encopts: Unknown suboption threads" error when encoding. This is on a dual 2.7 G5.

Instead, I've been encoding to an AVI, then use mp4box to extract the video into an mp4
