can i connect a standalone dvd player to my pc tv in(studio pctv rage)for recording scenes from dvds for later burning to vcd.if so what are the best connections?

First of all, yes you can use your monitor as a medium to view DVD's. Media can only be viwed as a softcopy this way. There are serveral ways to hook your standalone player up to your pc rather then directly to your montior but that is too much work.
For what you would like to do simply ripping the DVD on your CD-ROM would be a great deal more effective. The HOW TO section on this site has an excellent step by step process for editing dvd's. ie sences or chapters. Hope this helps.
