Hi,
I want to buy a DVD burner + enclouser for my Sony vaio laptop.
My main objective is to take back ups and copy my min DVs.
I can spend around 70-80$ on both of them. If some one can suggest a external for that price very cool.
i done some basic research i found out that BENQ 1640, NEC 3540X, LITEON xx93S are good for the price. what abt BENQ1620 pro?
some experienced reviews commenting that BENQ 1640 wont go well with enclousers. How far its true? I dont want spend money and time in returns.

I've used a Lite-ON 1693 with issue in a Belkin enclosure. Now a Pioneer 110 is in there, works like a champ. Make sure you're using USB2 or (preferably) Firewire.

I would suggest buying a Mad Dog External DVD Burner. They have NEC drives in them. I have been using one for well over a year now with no problems. They run about $100 but frequently are on sale for $75 at compusa. http://www.mdmm.com/products/optical/MegaSTOR7in1-16-8DL.asp

The Liteon 1693 is one of the best of my burners and they have an external version close to your price at Newegg.com
Still a few bugs in the system...
