    Newbie question here.
Is the final quality of a video on a cheap burned DVD not as good as on a better quality DVD?

I have some personal valuable home movies I am transferring to DVD. I have been using Memorex DVD-Rs

Should I switch to a better brand? If so can I get some suggestions.

If the Memorex are inferior quality, should I copy the burned videos over on to better quality DVDs?

No, if cheap media works, it's as good (if we talk picture quality) as expensive. What differs is mostly quality control and reliability. Memorex is just a brand - what counts is the manufacturer of the media, rarely available until you put the blank media in your drive.
    Take a look at www.nomorecoasters.com

No, I will not matter as far as the VIDEO quality itself. That is determinied by the Bit rate or compression you apply during the backing up process. Low quality, iffy media will cause skips freezes and simmilar problems during play back. They will also cause some burning problems but if successfully burned and if the play back without any problems, re burining them to "Better" media will not increase the visual video quality itself.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!
