16x Media in 16x Drive Burns at 4x

I have a new PC with a new 16x burner, but the 16x Memorex media I have won't burn any faster than 4x. DVDInfopro identifies it as 4x media, even though 16x is clearly printed on each disc.

Do companies just say that their media burns at a certain rate? Or is this a config error on my part somehow?

You might want to check into firmware for your burner. Some out-of-the-box burners advertise 16x but have small print (*with firmware update)...and you never got that box...
Also I refer to Memorex as Memorsux....they are very hit or miss as far as quality and reliability. I doubt the Memorsux discs are the problem in this case though....but if you are serious about quality....look into buying Taiyo Yuden media from places like www.rima.com .
