Really in over my head here. I am a guru at converting an AVI to SVCD and burned to two or more CDs with VirtualDub/TMPGEnc/VCDeasy...but for the first time I have a DVD+R DL burner available and I thought I would try to accomplish the same thing but instead "AVI to DVD". This appears to be a helluva lot more complicated than I anticipated. I used VirtualDub to seperate the audio...encoded with TMPGEnc to a template DVD which resulted in a rather large MPEG-2...but where the hell do I go from here? The MPEG-2 does not seem to suffice for a source to DVD Decrypter...read thru some of the guides...I don't want nor need chapters...or are they required?...HELP...newbie in over his head here...
Hey Mr. Taggert...ya want some beans?

You must author the mpeg2 to a dvd first,
    https://www.videohelp.com/author#3;6
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=2#2
and no you don't need any menus, chapters but you must author to vob, ifo, bup files.

I like tmpgenc dvd author or use some free tools like dvdauthorgui, muxman, rejig.
